In its mission of advancing technology transfer among participating institutions, the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program kicked off with the first of four trainings on 23 March 2022 via Zoom.
Funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) and facilitated by the Association of PAQE Professionals (APP) as the training provider, the 4th Intellectual Property (IP) Masterclass is designed to equip participants from 53 institutions nationwide. A total of 20 participants come from the participating institutions from Region IV namely Cavite State University, Southern Luzon State University, University of Rizal System, Marinduque State College, Batangas State University, Rizal Technological University, Laguna State Polytechnic University, Forest Products Research Development Institute, and Romblon State University. Other trainees come from RAISE Programs in Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Southern Mindanao.
They were trained by Atty. Jerry Serapion of Philippine Rice Research Institute, Dr. Jonathan Salvacion of Mapua University, Mr. Caezar Arceo of DOST-Technology and Promotion Institute, and Atty. Bayani Loste, all of whom are connected to APP. Other experts from APP like Engr. Manolita Aurora O. Javate were also present to support and give insights during presentations.

Discussions for the first day focused on Introduction to IP Management, The IP Policy Environment, Types of IP Protection, and Preparing Technology Disclosures which involved the identification of specific technologies from their institutions. Prior Art Search was then taught on the second day discussing patent search types, classification, and tools and strategies. In addition, participants did an actual search using the technology they chose for the workshop. Meanwhile, invention spotting was done on the third day along with the presentation of outputs of trainees.
The remaining activities will involve an actual IP application and exercises on other relevant documents. After finishing five modules until May, three other masterclasses for RAISE participants are set to be launched this year. These include the 4th Technology Commercialization Mentorship Series (TCMS) from June to August, Agribusiness Masterclass (ABM) from August to September, and Technology Promotion Mentorship Series (TPMS) from September to November.
